And the winner is...

Cynthia of New York State! She signed up for the give away on greenearthjourney and won!

Words, colors, images selected with care team up to weave hand-cut, hand-woven, recycled paper into this colorful, eco-chic pair of earrings. Each one is a unique globe friendly request to save mother earth's resources.

Congrats, Cynthia! Enjoy your eco-chic earrings -- they'll go out in the mail to you tomorrow!

The Free Art Project on Indie Fixx

So, I have been following the Indie Fixx site for a while. I'm always delighted to see the blog posts and featured artists. So recently, I have been REALLY enjoying the free art project section -- you can download art to enjoy for free. I'm redoing my studio and have found some super stuff to put on the walls. I absoutely adore this piece by Stephanie Nance.

custom map bag in progress

I've been working on these custom map bags for a few weeks and I just couldn't keep them to myself any longer! :) It's a shoulder bag and two coins purses made from maps from a family's trip to Hawaii.

I've totally fell in love with this idea and with this family's trip. They had a ball.

Many people have approached me in the past few months or so about custom bags. These are some of the types of paper people have been interested in having woven into a keepsake bag -- their thesis, their tax forms, their divorce papers, the wrapping paper from their wedding shower, the printed matter from their honeymoon, and the list goes on and on. What would you want your keepsake bag made out of?

If you're interested in a custom keepsake bag, please check out this listing in my shop and convo me about your idea so we can chat about it.

Frank McCourt

Hands down one of my favorite authors. I enjoyed listening to his books on CD during road trips home for the holidays. His accent and cadence made his stories eve more interesting.

The last of his books I read recently was 'Tis. He wrote too many great books to pick one favorite. Although his childhood was not ideal, it moulded him into a great writer.

The Latest...

Here's a sneak peek of a few new items in my studio...coming to my shop in the next few days! ;) I've been using recycled magazines and junk mail to create a fun little package of papers. I've added to it glass beads and voila!

What's in your mailbox?

I love paper and recycling. So, here's my latest little pouch made from the security envelopes that have arrived in my mail box for the past few weeks. I love the way all the different patterns look together - I had no idea there were that many security patterns or that I got so many in less than a month!

What do you recycle at home in an unusual way?

Join the 3/50 project

So one of my newest fave blogs is feltandwire.com the blog for Mohawk Paper. I love the writing style on the site and they blog about cool things other than paper too. (I am such a paper junkie.) They ran an article at the end of last month all about the 3/50 Project. I read the article and about fell out of my chair. It is exactly what I have been saying for so long and they have the numbers and statistics to back it up. Their basic premise is to support your local economy by patronizing locally owned independent businesses. They suggest that if each of us spent $50 total a month at our 3 favorite locally owned businesses each month we could seriously boost our local economies. The majority of the money you spend flows back into the local economy through paychecks, taxes, etc. The amount drops drastically when you shop in those mega chain stores. So think it over carefully before you select the next business where you'll spend your dollars.

So, what are your three? What three locally owned independent businesses would you miss if they closed? Here are my three;
• Boba Tea
• The Argentinian Bakery
• Dunes

Do what you can to support your local area. Stop by your 3 fave local shops regularly (change up your three occasionally) and support them, tell your friends about them and watch the local economy around you bounce back. It's a win-win-win.
