Word for Wednesday

So, I'm sure that by now, you know I am a word nerd. I'm sure you won't be surprised to know that I love the NPR program about the origin of words, it's called "A Way With Words." Somehow it seems like I always miss the live broadcast, so I am so excited there is a podcast of the program.

Today's word is a phrase biblioclasm. I can't remember where I first heard this word. Biblioclasm is the practice of destroying books or other written materials and media.

I love books and think biblioclasm should be a crime!

Today's word is a leptosome. This is a word I learned from a copywriter I work with regularly. Leptosome is an adjective that means a person who is slendar, thin or frail.

Have you noticed how many leptosome people we work with? (this was followed by big laughter) We don't work with any leptosome people.

Today's word is "acersecomic" and it means, one whose hair has never been cut. This is a word I learned from an office friend! "Acersecomic" is something a coworker said when we were talking about her little boy getting his first haircut.

I hope Logan doesn't freak out at the salon this weekend since he's acersecomic.

Today's word is a phrase, "church it up". This is a word I learned from office mates! "Church it up" is something a coworker said when we were talking about tidying up the office prior to a client visit.

Today's word is butt-bling. This is a word I learned from office mates! Butt-Bling is the "beddazzled looking" twinkly pieces on the pockets of many jeans these days.

Did you see Regina's butt-bling today? It almost blinded me! :)

Today's word is bullsh. This is a word I learned from coworkers recently. It's the abbreviated/office safe form of bullsh•t.

Today's word is preesh. This word was brought to my attention by coworkers during a moment of appreciation. As you know, as time goes by words keep getting shorter and shorter and abbreviated. This is a shortened version of the phrase, "I appreciate it!"

A coworker shouted "preesh" over the cube wall as she ran by to a last minute meeting.

Today's word is sneakernet. This word was brought to my attention by coworkers during a hiccup on our server. We couldn't share files on the jacked server, so we shared them non-electronically by putting them on a jump drive and walking them (the sneaker part) to one another's desks. This is highly inefficient but desperate times call for desperate measures, right?!

Today the highly sophisticated servers were down, so to share files we went old school – that's right, we sneakernetted.

Today's word is crap ton. I learned this term from coworkers. This term refers to a huge excess of something.

I hope we're not here all night, the client just ask for a crap ton of stuff before the end of the day.

Today's word is bacne. This word was brought to my attention by a friend during a discussion about summer skin. This is a recent term that refers to the acne that some people get on their backs during the summer. back + acne = bacne

I dread the summer heat because of bacne. I don't feel comfortable wearing fun summer fashions for fear that someone will spot my bacne.

Today's word is zakka. This word was brought to my attention by sunflowersbydesign. This is a Japanese term that means little bits.

There are so many fun zakka listings on Etsy.

Today's word is yarn bombing. I learned this term from knitters. This term refers to knitters who plan to knit on something in a public place as a surprise.

I was delighted to see the yarn bombing at the Lakewood Library - it was a nice surprise.

Today's word is skyjacked. I can't remember where I learned this. This term refers to being done wrong by an airline.

I'm sorry to be late for the meeting, I was skyjacked in Los Angeles.

Today's word is faturday. I can't remember where I learned this exactly. This term refers the one day a week a dieter can eat whatever they want.

I've been craving chocolate all week. I'm delighted that tomorrow is faturday and I can have a brownie.

Today's word is eyebuffet. I can't remember where I learned this. This term refers to their being a lot to look at that's very interesting.

I'm so glad I went to the thrift shop this weekend it was a total eyebuffet.

Today's word is upcycle. I learned this word on twitter. Increase the value of something that most of society considers useless + allow item to reenter the world of usefulness=upcycled.

My jeans had holes in them, so I cut them up and upcycled them into a messenger bag.
